An odd thing about The Pale King that I guess speaks well of it is the fact that, when I came to the end, I found the ending to be something of a letdown. In his final unfinished masterpiece, The Pale King, David Foster Wallace attempts the impossible: He tries to write a profound and artistic novel about the nexus between power and mind-numbing tedium. The March 9 issue follows through with two articles, one by Wallace and one on Wallace. You can't read The Pale King, David Foster Wallace's final novel, without thinking of the author's death.
